USB RS232 RS485 RS422 TTL communication protocols: Understanding the Relationship and Signal Conversion

Premier Cable

USB RS232 RS485 RS422 TTL adapter converts USB signals into the level and signal type of the corresponding serial port protocol through a specialized FTDI chip to ensure data compatibility and correct transmission between different interfaces and protocols.

What is the relationship between USB RS232 RS485 RS422 TTL communication protocol, and how to achieve signal conversion ?

USB RS232 RS485 RS422 TTL adapter converts USB signals into the level and signal type of the corresponding serial port protocol through a specialized FTDI chip to ensure data compatibility and correct transmission between different interfaces and protocols.

Communication protocol relationship

1. RS232:

Definition: Standard serial communication protocol, used for short-distance communication. Commonly used for point-to-point connections.

Features: Uses single-ended signals, usually for data exchange between the computer and peripherals, supporting lower data transfer rates.

2. RS485:

Definition: Differential signaling serial communication protocol, suitable for long-distance and multi-point network communications.

Features: Supports half-duplex or full-duplex communication, has strong anti-interference ability, and is suitable for long-distance and multi-device connections in industrial environments.

3. RS422:

Definition: Differential signaling serial communication protocol, mainly used for high-speed and long-distance communication.

Features: Similar to RS485, but generally used for full-duplex communication. The data transmission rate and distance are higher than RS232.

4. TTL:

Definition: Transistor - Transistor logic level signals commonly used for short-distance communications in microcontrollers and electronic circuits.

Features: Logic level signal (usually 0-5V or 0-3.3V), suitable for communicating directly with digital circuits.

Signal conversion implementation

1. From USB to RS232:

Method: The USB to RS232 converter converts USB signals into RS232 level signals through built-in serial interface chips (such as FTDI, Prolific, etc.). The USB interface provides power and data transmission, while the chip converts the data format and level into the RS232 standard.

2. From USB to RS485:

Method: The USB to RS485 converter converts USB signals into RS485 differential signals through a built-in conversion chip. The converter processes the USB data and generates an A/B differential pair of RS485 for long-distance and interference-resistant communication.

3. From USB to RS422:

Method: USB to RS422 converter is similar to RS485 converter, but mainly used for full-duplex communication. The built-in chip converts USB signals into RS422 differential signals (including TX+, TX-, RX+, RX-) for high-speed and long-distance communication.

4. From USB to TTL:

Method: The USB to TTL converter converts the USB signal into a TTL logic level signal through the conversion chip. The converter communicates directly with the microcontroller or other TTL level device to convert the USB data to a level suitable for the TTL device.
