What is the communication protocol used by PLC programming cable?

PLC, programmable logic controller programming cable communication protocol depends on the PLC brand and model. Different PLCs use different communication protocols and cables. Common communication protocols and cable types include: RS-232, RS-485, USB, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Profinet, Modbus

1. RS-232: A serial communication protocol commonly used in older PLCs, such as certain models of Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc. This communication typically uses standard serial interface cables.

2. RS-485: Another serial communication protocol, often used in newer PLCs, especially in applications requiring multi-point communication. PLCs of Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron and other brands may use this protocol. Cables are usually twisted pairs, allowing longer distances and higher transmission rates.

3. USB: Some modern PLCs use USB interfaces for programming and communication. For example, Siemens' S7-1200 series and S7-1500 series PLCs may be equipped with USB interfaces for programming and debugging.

4. Ethernet/IP: Many modern PLCs support communication over Ethernet. It uses standard Ethernet cables and supports fast data transfer and network communications. This communication protocol is commonly used in industrial automation networks.

5. Profibus/Profinet: Communication protocol used by companies such as Siemens. Profibus is used for fieldbus communication, while Profinet is used for industrial Ethernet communication. The corresponding programming cables and interfaces will also vary.

6. Modbus: This is another common communication protocol that is widely used in industrial control. It can communicate via serial communication (RS-232 or RS-485) or TCP/IP.
