|NMEA 2000 backbone is a single trunk cable to which the appropriate T-pieces, network cables and terminators can simply screw onto to connect with different NMEA 2000 Device and Marine electronic meters
There are two sizes of cabling by DeviceNet NMEA 2000 standard. The larger is Mini or Thick trunk cable, and is rated to carry up to 8 Amperes of power supply current. The smaller is Micro or Thin drop cable using the M12 5-pin connector rated to carry up to 3 Amperes of power supply current.
Mini trunk cable i used as a backbone or trunk for NMEA2000 Marine networks on larger vessels, with Micro cable used for connections between the network backbone and the individual components. Networks on smaller vessels often are constructed entirely of Micro cable and connectors.
